Global fast food giant McDonald’s has joined the One New Zealand Warriors in a three-year deal as the club’s official restaurant partner.
The agreement will see the iconic golden arches featuring on the left back position on the shorts of all six of the club’s teams competing in the NRL, NRLW, New South Wales Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, SG Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup.
As New Zealand’s largest quick-service restaurant chain, McDonald’s boasts almost 180 outlets across the country serving more than 1.5 million Kiwis every week.
The announcement coincides with the 50th anniversary of McDonald’s opening its first New Zealand restaurant in Porirua in 1976.
“We’re so excited to welcome a company of the calibre of McDonald’s to our family of partners,” said One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George.
“McDonald’s is a brand that connects people, and their commitment to supporting sport from the grassroots level to the professional stage aligns perfectly with our club values.”
More than 90 percent of McDonald’s restaurants in New Zealand are operated by 53 franchisees, employing more than 10,000 people. Globally McDonald’s employs more than two million people operating more than 40,000 restaurants.
“We’re stoked to be joining the One New Zealand Warriors’ whānau,” said Luke Rive, director of marketing, McDonald’s NZ.
“We’ve been long-time admirers of the club and jumped at the opportunity to get involved. Our franchisees around the country are looking forward to celebrating our connection with the Wahs in the communities in which they operate.
"We’ve got some great plans underway and are confident the fans will be lovin’ it.”
In announcing the new partnership with McDonald’s, George paid tribute to outgoing partner Wendy’s, which started its relationship with the One New Zealand Warriors in 2008.
“We’re so grateful to Wendy’s for the way they have supported us for almost 20 years,” he said.
“We thank them for the passion and energy they brought to their partnership with us and wish them all the best for the future.”
