Coaches for One New Zealand Warriors junior teams.
(Various positions: Head coach and assistant coaches).
Appointment term
Varied: Full season, November 2023-October 2024.
Half season, November 2023-April 2024.
Working time
Part-time: It will require coaching on weekday evenings and weekends with some travel overseas required. It is also expected that you are available to attend various competitions across Auckland for the purpose of identifying players for the future. Hours to be confirmed.

Role description
The One New Zealand Warriors pathways coaching roles provide an opportunity to be a part of an elite rugby league coaching programme. They will be part of a collective programme that will fast-track the development of young, but highly motivated, rugby league players who will compete in an Australian junior age competition. They will have the experience and ability to maximise player performance in all aspects of the game. In collaboration with the pathways team, they will support the development and delivery of the high-performance environment. A part of this role is to work in partnership with NZRL high performance and other regions across New Zealand to provide guidance and expertise in the identification and development of players in the high-performance pathway.
Key responsibilities
- Fully commit to understanding the One New Zealand Warriors’ culture and purpose.
- As a part of the overall pathways’ strategy, deliver a high-performance programme.
- Drive player development to improve technical, tactical, physical, and mental elements of the game. This includes driving the implementation of development plans for all players.
- Lead a highly efficient and effective player review process. This includes the use of technology as a tool for feedback.
- Collaborate with all junior and senior One New Zealand Warriors staff.
Support the recruitment and pathways department of the One New Zealand Warriors organisation.
Selection criteria
- Coaching experience at a high level is an advantage.
- Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of rugby league fundamentals, both offence and defence.
- Show ability to plan, co-ordinate and deliver high level coaching sessions.
- Strong communicator - ability to lead large groups. Confidently present ideas, plans and feedback to players, parents, and agents.
- Show initiative to seek out opportunities for external professional development or internal support.
- High level of cultural awareness and capability to adapt to a unique environment.
- Computer understanding of Excel, PowerPoint, Analyzer, HUDL.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, to help solve problems on the run, be flexible in planning.
- Have completed NRL/NZRL senior club accreditation level 2 or equivalent (or higher).
- No criminal convictions.

Role description
The One New Zealand Warriors pathways manager role provides an opportunity to develop as a performance rugby league manager. The successful applicant will be part of a team that will follow the club’s vision, mission, and values. The candidate will be responsible for working with the coaching pathways team on and off the field to a standard of excellence required for a New South Wales Rugby League youth competition enhancing the reputation of our brand. The successful applicant will have the experience and ability to organise team requirements of consistent communication, updated team records, preparation for game day, travel and trainings meet the highest standards. Through the pathways team’s weekly meetings, the candidate will support the development and delivery of a high-performance environment with a multi-disciplinary team that provides best practice for players to develop and reach their full potential.
Key responsibilities
- Management and planning.
- Set an example through club values for all to recognise through your behaviours and attitudes.
- Have a can-do attitude to requests and requirements of the head coach and staff wherever possible and, in your opinion, advisable.
- Keep accurate and up to date records of players and staff as set out by football operations manager. This will include reviews from time to time.
- Ensure players and staff are aware and compliant with all values, rules and regulations of the One New Zealand Warriors and the New South Wales Rugby League. This will include overseeing all dressing room activities on match day and training sessions.
- Direct and control all managerial aspects of team organisation involved in preparation for training, match day and travel of the team.
- Always be aware of the needs of staff and players in their roles and responsibilities and assist in whatever is required to deliver the necessary care and concern in all circumstances.
- Be alert to medical requirements should they occur. Be fully prepared with emergency names and numbers for those situations.
- Be in direct contact with senior club personnel over any matter of club, individual or team concern.
- Must have a valid full New Zealand driver’s licence and New Zealand passport to travel to Australia.
- Safeguard staff and player passports.
- High-quality communication and organisation skills.
- Collaboration with all staff, players, and parents/caregivers.
- Improve overall development of the whole athlete through pathways programme’s physical, mental and rehabilitation teams.
- Help drive the club’s pathways culture, standards, and expectations.
Selection criteria
- Team manager experience at a high level is an advantage.
- Proven ability to work within a multidisciplined team and establish buy-in of the pathways vision, mission, and club values.
- Proven ability to plan and consistently communicate to all relevant people involved with the One New Zealand Warriors’ pathways programme.
- Strong commitment to professional development of staff and players.
- High level of cultural awareness and capability to adapt to a unique environment.
- Computer understanding of Excel, PowerPoint, HUDL, youth social media platforms.
- Strong communicator - ability to lead large groups, confidently present and technically explain their ideas, plans and feedback; able to work with players, parents, and staff.
- Positive mindset and proactively seeking personal development to become a better team manager.

Role description
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified strength and conditioning person to be part of our One New Zealand Warriors pathways performance team. They will be part of a team that will follow the club’s vision, mission, and values. The candidate will be responsible for working with the coaching pathways team on and off the field to a standard of excellence required for a New South Wales Rugby League youth competition enhancing the reputation of our brand. They will have the experience and ability to organise team requirements of consistent communication, updated team records, preparation for game day, travel and trainings meet the highest standards. The role requires a high level of flexibility as the hours and days of work are variable. The hours of work will fluctuate on a daily basis; however, planning is done collaboratively so workload can be managed. Through the pathways team’s weekly meetings, the candidate will support the development and delivery of a high-performance environment with a multi-disciplinary team that provides best practice for players to develop and reach their full potential.
Key responsibilities
- Development of a holistic physical programme to prepare elite youth athletes to the next level of the club’s pathway to the NRL.
- Lead and collaborate the planning, implementation, delivery, and management of a New South Wales Rugby League youth team and strength and conditioning programme aligned to the One New Zealand Warriors’ high performance department model.
- Develop positive representation for the club, players, and team management. Provide hands on coaching to developing players to promote vital physical capabilities (skills, speed, strength, power, aerobic endurance, muscular endurance, flexibility, conditioning games etc).
- Collaborate with other pathways staff such as coaches, performance staff and physiotherapists to ensure a cohesive, holistic programme targeting the individual.
- Develop strong relationships and educate the players on key performance preparation and lifestyle areas (recovery, mental preparation, nutrition, time management).
- Collect and enter appropriate player data for performance analysis into Athlete Management System for player feedback and reviewing the progress of the NSWRL youth player performance programme.
- Ensure there is alignment with the pathways programme on player development priorities.
- Educate players so they understand their programme of enhancing player strength, speed and conditioning levels meets agreed standards.
- Assist with coordinating the One New Zealand Warriors strength and conditioning resourcing needs for other pathways teams.
- Ensure all players representing the One New Zealand Warriors are compliant with all supplement guidelines as directed by the NRL anti-doping policies.
Key skills and experience
- Relevant undergraduate and/or postgraduate qualifications in sport science and strength and conditioning. Minimum level 2 accreditation within appropriate regulatory body (e.g. ASCA, UKSCA, NSCA). Or in the process of completing.
- Minimum of three-plus years’ experience in the industry working in either the development or high-performance levels of sport.
- Proven skills and experience in working within team sports (preferably rugby league teams).
- Player development progress based on improved player physical performance. Experience designing training programmes focused on progressive physical development following common long-term development models.
- Possesses excellent organisation, time management and communication through IT skills.
