Egan extends contract to end of 2028 NRL season

One New Zealand Warriors hooker Wayde Egan has extended his stay with the club until the end of the 2028 NRL season.

Off contract at the end of 2027, the club has moved early to secure the 29-year-old by signing him on new one-year deal which will see him remain with the Warriors for at least nine seasons.

The Lithgow-born Egan has come off a superb 2026 campaign which saw him recognised as the hooker of the year at last month’s Dally M awards.

“Wayde has been a huge asset for us and is well established as one of the best hookers in the competition,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.

“He loves being with Warriors while his experience is invaluable helping the next generation of hookers coming through our pathways system.”

Egan is eyeing the possibility of two major career milestones next year – his 150th appearance for the One New Zealand Warriors and his 200th career game; his totals sit at 146 for the club and 175 overall.

“Wayde is brilliant, an elite hooker who’s so smart in his all-round game and a player who provides so much in every respect around the club,” said One New Zealand Warriors head coach Andrew Webster.

“We’ve got a style of play we put around him so he can show his talent. He’s exceptional and a player we’re so happy to see staying at the club.”

Egan played 25 of the Warriors’ 26 games this season averaging 30 tackles a game and delivering career-best numbers for try assists (13) and off loads (13).

He is now poised to establish a record for the most appearances by an Australian player for the One New Zealand Warriors. That currently sits at 188, held by prop Jacob Lillyman who is seventh on the club’s all-time list for most games.
