Away game at Eden Park confirmed for Warriors next year

As well as their Anzac Day home game at Eden Park next year, the One New Zealand Warriors will now also play an away fixture at New Zealand’s national stadium.

The second match set down for June 13 was revealed as the Australian Rugby League Commission locked in Wednesday, June 16, for the first State of Origin match to be played on New Zealand soil.

Opponents and kick-off times for the Warriors’ April 25 home game and the June 13 away match at Eden Park are yet to be announced.

“It’s not just the Origin match fans can look forward to - we are planning a week of rugby league festivities in the lead-up to the event starting with a Warriors game at Eden Park on the Sunday afternoon prior to the Origin fixture,” said ARLC chairman Peter V’landys.

“It’s going to be a complete takeover of Auckland showcasing the best of our game to New Zealanders and fans travelling from all over the world.

“State of Origin is truly unique. It creates an atmosphere unlike anything else in Australian sport – fierce rivalry, raw passion and an intensity that can only be understood by experiencing it firsthand. It’s a bucket list event.”

In May, One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George announced the club will take its Anzac Round home fixture to Eden Park on Anzac Day next year after using Go Media Stadium, Apollo Projects Stadium and Hnry Stadium for the fixture in the past three seasons.

It will be the first time the Warriors have played an NRL match at Eden Park since a 54-12 win over the Canberra Raiders in May 2014.

The 2027 Anzac Round match will be the seventh time the One New Zealand Warriors have played an NRL match at Eden Park while they also appeared there in the four years the venue hosted the NRL Nines in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Travel and hospitality packages went on sale yesterday for the historic Eden Park State of Origin match between New South Wales and Queensland, game two of the 2027 Origin series.

New Zealand’s Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston welcomed confirmation of the date, and the next milestone in preparation for the fixture in Auckland.

“The countdown is officially on for New Zealand’s first-ever State of Origin match,” she said.

“We are excited to welcome Blues and Maroons fans from across Australia and to give Kiwi rugby league supporters the chance to witness this iconic rivalry firsthand. It will be a historic occasion for New Zealand and a fantastic opportunity to showcase Kiwi hospitality and our beautiful country to international visitors.”

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown says confirmation of the date is another exciting milestone as Auckland prepares to host State of Origin for the first time.

“Bringing State of Origin to New Zealand for the first time is a big win for Auckland,” he said.

“It’s one of the biggest events in Australasian sport, and we’re looking forward to putting on something special for fans here and those travelling across the Tasman.

“Now the date is locked in, fans can start making their plans. We want them to come for more than just the game – make a week of it and experience Auckland’s take on State of Origin, in the stadium and around the city.”

Travel packages became available from 1.00pm today (Tuesday, August 18) through NRL Travel. Hospitality packages are also available via NRL.com/hospitality.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public in November. Fans can register for a general public ticket waitlist through 2027 State of Origin | NRL.com.

Game Two of the 2027 Ampol State of Origin Series is co-funded by Auckland Council Events, through Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and the New Zealand government via the Major Events Fund.
