Harris-Tavita extends again to end of 2029 season

One New Zealand Warriors playmaker Chanel Harris-Tavita has signed a second contract extension in less than three months to stretch his stay with the club to 10 seasons.

The new two-year deal to the end of the 2029 campaign follows a one-year contract inked in May for the 2027 season.

Over the last two campaigns Harris-Tavita has been firmly entrenched as the starting #6, helping the Warriors to a 28-14 win-loss record in the 42 of a possible 45 games he has played.

“Initially Chanel renewed for just the one season but we couldn’t be happier to have him with us for a longer term,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.

“It secures his future and ensures he will continue to be a critical part of our plans for at least the next three seasons. He has worked so hard at improving his game and has become one of the game’s most accomplished halves.”

Following a year off in 2023, Harris-Tavita returned for his second stint with the Warriors on a two-year deal for 2024 and 2025 before extending his contract by one year to the end of this season.

After starting in his customary role at #6 in the 40-6 win over Brisbane on Saturday night, Harris-Tavita was switched to halfback when Luke Metcalf was forced off with a hamstring injury just 20 minutes into the contest.

“We saw exactly why Chanel is so valuable to us on Saturday night, how calm he was and the way he stood up and took control when we were faced with adversity. He was really professional,” said One New Zealand Warriors head coach Andrew Webster.

“He’s one of our most consistent players and is having a terrific season for us leading our left edge. We’re so glad he’s staying for two more years and we know he is going to become an even more important player for us.”

The 27-year-old Harris-Tavita’s latest extension comes in a year in which he achieved the distinction of becoming the 32nd player to appear in 100 NRL games for the One New Zealand Warriors.
