NRLW Team Update: Broughton out with injury

Gayle Broughton has been ruled out of the One New Zealand Warriors’ round two NRLW encounter with the Raiders at GIO Stadium in Canberra tomorrow (12.00pm noon kick-off local time; 2.00pm NZT),

The 30-year-old, who made an outstanding club debut against the Bulldogs last week, picked up a quad injury on Thursday night which is expected to sideline her for several weeks.

The Warriors have also lost left winger Lavinia Tauhalaliku, a double try scorer last week, and forward Felilia Kia. With a number of other players unavailable through injury, the club has been left with just 17 fit players for tomorrow’s match.

The defections will result in two players making their club and NRLW debuts tomorrow – Ocean Tierney on the wing and Natalia Hickling off the bench – while Black Ferns superstar Stacey Waaka will appear for the Warriors for the first time after representing the Broncos in 2024.

Centre Emmanita Paki replaces Broughton at standoff, Shakira Baker moves into the centres and Christabelle Onesemo-Tuilaepa, who debuted off the bench last week, starts in the second row.

The Warriors have also lost winger Payton Takimoana (shoulder) and middle forward Laishon Albert-Jones (calf) while prop Mya Hill-Moana has been hit with a one-match suspension.

Tonga international Metanoia Fetalaiga moves into the starting front row for Hill-Moana while Ivana Lauitiiti is added to the bench after serving a suspension last week dating back to the Kiwi Ferns’ Pacific Championships final loss to the Jillaroos last November.

Not considered this week were new signing Mele Hufanga (hamstring), Matekino Gray (foot), Kaiyah Atai (thumb), Anastasia Sekene (ankle) and Tyra Wetere (knee).

The One New Zealand Warriors travelled to Canberra on Friday ahead of their first visit to the Australian national capital. When the two sides met in round seven in Hamilton last year, the Raiders prevailed 20-16.
