The Wests Tigers have kicked off Craig Sandercock's tenure with a dominant victory over the Eels.
Off-season recruit Raecene McGregor pulled the strings as the Tigers jumped out to a 22-0 half-time lead before ultimately closing out a 28-16 win.

Eels v Wests Tigers - Round 1, 2026
The Warriors then showcased why many expect them to content for the premiership with a dominant 32-10 victory over the Bulldogs in Hamilton.
The hosts led 10-0 at the break before producing a second-half blitz that saw them score three tries in three sets to start the half before the Bulldogs had even had a chance to get their hands on the ball.
Centre Emmanita Paki and winger Lavinia Tauhalaliku each scored doubles as the Warriors enjoyed success down a left edge run by star recruit Gayle Broughton.
The side's bench also proved decisive, utility Jasmin Huriwai, Harata Butler and Laishon Albert-Jones all making a big impact. In disappointing news, Albert-Jones' day came to an early end due to a leg injury.

Full-time: Canterbury have crossed as the final siren sounded, Monica Tagoai scoring a late try to narrow the deficit. Lavinia Tauhalaliku 2nd Try
69th minute: The Warriors have put an exclamation mark on a convincing victory, winger Lavinia Tauhalaliku scoring in the corner. The middle forwards put the hosts on the front foot and Gayle Broughton ensured her side capitalised on a retreating defensive line, delivering a perfect pass to lay on the try. Warriors 32 - Bulldogs 6.
Alexis Tauaneai Try
62nd minute: The Bulldogs are on the board, with Alexis Tauaneai scoring a well-worked try. Canterbury have had success when playing direct this afternoon and that's how they scored this one. Tysha Ikenasio Try
39th minute: The points keep on coming for the Warriors, who have scored two tries in two sets of six before the Bulldogs have even touched the ball in the second half.
