NSW Cup Preview: Back home chasing bounce back result

Halfway through their campaign, the One New Zealand Warriors will be hunting a rebound performance when they take on the Newtown Jets in today’s round 15 New South Wales Cup clash at Go Media Stadium (4.45pm kick-off).

After collecting two points from their bye last week they sit eighth on the ladder on 16 points, four behind the Jets who fifth and just inside the top five as it stands.

Victory is key if the defending premiers are to maintain contact with the play-off sports.

To do so they’ll need a much-improved start than the one they had against the competition-leading Panthers when they conceded a 0-30 lead before laying on 20 unanswered points in the final 25 minutes.

When they faced the Jets at Henson Park in round five, the Warriors worked their way to a gritty 26-24 victory.

Since then their form has fluctuated with a loss to the Storm followed by victory over the Sea Eagles, back-to-back defeats by the Bears and the Eels, wins over the Storm and the Dragons and then the setback against Penrith.

Like the NRL side, this will also be the New South Wales Cup team’s first time back at Go Media Stadium since April 18 when they beat the Sea Eagles 38-22.

There'll be special interest in centre Rocco Berry as he continues his comeback from injury after a 60-minute effort two weeks ago.
