JFC preview: Starting over after long break from action

An enforced three-week break between games will be one test and so will top of the table St George-Illawarra when the One New Zealand Warriors resume their Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) campaign at Jubilee Stadium in Sydnye today (1.00pm kick-off local time; 3.00pm NZT).

The Warriors haven’t played since May 2 when they suffered a disappointing 24-30 loss to the Eels due to having a bye the following week before a competition-wide break last weekend.

They come back today freshened up if lacking a little match conditioning while the Dragons have missed just one weekend as they take a 7-1 record into their home contest.

The Warriors lie seventh on 12 points with a 5-4 record but need victory to stay in contact with the top five with the Eels and Bulldogs currently fourth and fifth on 16 points.

It has been an erratic season so far for the One New Zealand Warriors after starting to season with three big wins but then having three straight losses.

They stand out as the competition’s top attacking force scoring 322 points helped in no small way by the record 66-6 win over the Silktails.

The lineup named on Tuesday shows numerous changes from the one used against the Eels.

Winger Harry Tauafiafi, who has scored 14 tries this season, has since been promoted to the club’s New South Wales Cup side while halfback Jack Thompson, centre Sio Kali and winger Brandon Norris, prop Gordon Afoa and second rower Kahui Capper are all missing from the published squad list.
