Covid-19 challenges force change to Gould's involvement

Ongoing challenges brought about by the Covid-19 crisis have forced the Vodafone Warriors to significantly modify Phil Gould’s role with the club.

The highly influential Gould was appointed as a consultant last August but Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George today announced the club had no option but make big changes to his role.

“We’ve agreed to reduce Phil’s position due to the ongoing uncertainty created by the Covid-19 pandemic, not least the restrictions on travel and the NRL bubble,” said George.

“It’s hugely disappointing but it has been extremely difficult if not impossible for Gus to provide us with his presence either in New Zealand or in our NRL bubble in Australia.

“He’ll continue to offer advice to our pathways staff on request which will allow him to commit to work closer to home in Sydney without the challenges we’re experiencing.

“Gus has been great to work with in his time at our club and even though he has been restricted in his presence he has helped us immensely.

“We look forward to continuing to work with him as required. (Owner) Mark Robinson and I have a close relationship with him and our close ties will remain.

“If Gus chooses to work with another NRL club he does so with our support.

“This is just another example of the challenges Covid restrictions have presented us with.”
