Ola's guide to game day: Round #13 v Storm

A 104 square metre synthetic ice rink, a pop-up snow dome and snow machine and an appearance from Frozen’s Anna and Elsa are key features of Paradice’s Winter Wonderland-inspired game day this Saturday as the Vodafone Warriors take on the Melbourne Storm.

The match, at Mt Smart Stadium, kicks off at 5pm and it will be the first time the two sides have met since Anzac Day in Melbourne earlier in the year where the Storm emerged victorious on the back of a controversial penalty in the dying stages.

This time around, the Vodafone Warriors will be boosted by the presence of star skipper Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who missed the April road trip to Melbourne.

The Storm, meanwhile, have named their four State of Origin stars in their squad and will be hoping they emerge unscathed from Wednesday’s series opener and are able to back up on Saturday.

With a history of great clashes between these two rivals, fans can rightly expect more of the same this weekend.

What’s happening on the field, however, is merely the tip of the iceberg and for those heading along, there’ll be plenty of off-field action to keep them entertained.

With a 5pm kick off, Saturday’s game is at a family-friendly time and thanks to match day sponsors, Paradice, Mt Smart Stadium is going to transform into a Winter Wonderland for the afternoon.

Situated up near Gate B and behind the giant screen, a portable synthetic ice rink will be a key feature of this game day. And don’t worry, skates are provided so you won’t need to bring your own!

Winter might have already arrived in Auckland but that doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing snow any time soon. We’ve got you covered on that front too with Paradice’s snow dome. Don’t forget to rug up in your wet weather gear, though.

The Chemist Warehouse Fun Zone, as always, is the place to be for the kids this Saturday. Keep on the lookout for Elsa and Anna from the movie Frozen, who are also planning to stop by on game day.

In other exciting game day activity, the Mitre 10 Mini Golf course will once again be in full swing.

The unique course, which sees fans attempt to putt around plumbing equipment, through kitchen sinks and a range of other hardware obstacles, is free to all patrons. Balls and putters are provided.

On Saturday, if the home team scores during the Wendys Power Play, then fans can score free Wendys with any $5 purchase. To ensure you’re ready to roll and match fit, download the new Wendy’s NZ app so the coupon can be sent straight to your phone while you’re in the stands.

Meanwhile, on the iHeartRadio Sound Stage, The Fabulous Murray Brothers will be heating up the Entertainment Precinct with some great music from 2:30pm.

And, as they have done throughout the season, the Vodafone Warriors’ official ride-share partner, Ola, has once again set up a special coupon that will give fans $20 off their first ride. To access the discount, fans should enter the code “WARRIORS”.

If the Vodafone Warriors win, head to SKYCITY to celebrate and enjoy 25% off any food and/or non-alcoholic beverage purchase (up to $50) at Andy’s Burgers & Bar. Show your match ticket or membership card to any staff member to take advantage of the discount. But remember, the discount is only valid for up to 25 hours after the conclusion of the match.

See you at our house on game day. Don’t forget to rug up!
