Jersey Flegg win, Canterbury Cup draw

The Junior Vodafone Warriors have claimed their first win of the season while the Canterbury Cup NSW team also took a point from their clash with Blacktown Works on Sunday after an 18-18 draw.

In the earlier match at HE Laybutt Field, the Vodafone Warriors’ Jersey Flegg team were dominant against the Manly Sea Eagles, finishing with a 24-12 win.

Two first half tries to Casey Smith set the visitors up for a 16-6 lead going into the break while two additional four-pointers in the second half sealed the result.

In the Canterbury Cup match, coach Nathan Cayless’ troops bounced back from a disappointing showing a week earlier to share the points in their match.

A strong start for the Vodafone Warriors, including three tries in the first half, helped lay the platform for what turned out to be a thrilling draw.

The hosts had the chance to claim victory but Trent Hodkinson’s field goal attempt in the dying stages missed to ensure the Vodafone Warriors left Sydney with their first competition points of the season.
