Members of Emirates Team New Zealand's America's Cup-winning squad will be special guests at the Vodafone Warriors' final home game day of the season at Mount Smart Stadium tomorrow.
Their presence follows the appearance by members of the world champion Black Sox softball team when the Vodafone Warriors hosted Canberra two weeks ago.
The Emirates Team New Zealand contingent will be introduced crowd on the field and will also be special guests in the Corporate Lounge in the East Stand.
Among those in attendance will be cyclers Andy Maloney, Guy Endean and Simon van Velthooven along with shore team and boat building coordinator Sean Reagen, Hamish Hooper from media and communications, on-water operator Chris Hornell, on-water manager Chris Salthouse, wing coordinator Rob Salthouse, mechanical designer Tim Meldrum and suppliers’ manager Tom Waterhouse.
Team New Zealand had the country spellbound as it crushed Oracle Team USA 7-1 in Bermuda in June to bring the America’s Cup back to New Zealand after 14 years.
The New Zealand team started the America's Cup match against Oracle one point down.
The Kiwi boat won each of the first five races before Oracle landed its only victory to leave the score reading 4-1 to Team New Zealand after six races.
It wasn’t enough for the Americans as Peter Burling got ahead in both starts in races seven and eight taking them to match point 6-1 before snaring the Auld Mug 7-1.
