Cronulla will take a two-point loss to South Sydney into Sundays third-round NRL clash against the Vodafone Warriors and might also be without outstanding back rower Luke Lewis. Photo: Photosport.

The ex-Panther had to leave the field with an ankle injury during the Sharks 12-14 defeat by the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium on Monday night.

Lewis wasnt able to return to a contest Cronulla came close to stealing.

It was all South Sydney early on as the home side raced to a 12-0 and looked good for more.

By halftime it was 14-6 in the Rabbitohs favour but the match took on a different complexion after Beau Ryan picked up a loose pass to race 80 metres to score in the 66th minute.

At 12-14 and with 14 minutes to play, the Sharks were coming home strongly but the Bunnies, denied further points on obstruction calls, had the means to hold on for their second straight win.

The Sharks now front the Vodafone Warriors at Sharks Stadium on Sunday (2.00pm kick-off; 4.00pm NZT).

With the second round completed, there are just three teams with perfect records Melbourne, Manly and South Sydney.
