South Sydney and the One New Zealand Warriors consolidated their women's pathways partnership when the Rabbitohs were hosted at Go Media Stadium this week.
The clubs announced a landmark partnership last December in a boost for each club’s women’s programmes.
This week the Warriors hosted the Rabbitohs’ pathways and women's operations manager Rob Capizzi plus captain Jazmon Tupou-Witchman and Claudia Brown from South Sydney’s Harvey Norman NSW women’s premiership squad.
During the three-day visit the South Sydney delegation was able to witness the Warriors’ NRLW programme first-hand ahead of the club’s trip to Wagga Wagga for this Sunday’s Magic Round clash against the Gold Coast Titans.
Under the partnership players not selected in the Warriors’ NRLW side each week are able to play for South Sydney in the NSW women’s premiership which runs alongside the NRLW competition.
Last weekend NRLW squad member Natalia Hickling and development player Asha Taumoepeau-Williams were both in the Rabbitohs’ squad for their clash against the Mounties.
At the same time South Sydney-contracted players will have the opportunity to join the Warriors on a train and trial basis providing a potential pathway to an NRLW career with the One New Zealand Warriors.
Unlike the other 11 clubs in the NRLW, the One New Zealand Warriors haven’t previously benefited from the strong competition provided by having a feeder club or team in the Harvey Norman NSW premiership or the BMD premiership in Queensland.
