NRL Confirmed Lineup: Nicoll-Klokstad retained on bench

Fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has been confirmed on the six-man bench for the One New Zealand Warriors’ round 15 encounter with the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks at Go Media Stadium tonight (7.30pm kick-off; match day sponsor: Flava).

Named as a reserve in jersey #22 on Tuesday, he is elevated to join Makaia Tafua, Eddie Ieremia-Toeava, Demitric Vaimauga, Kayliss Fatialofa and Jason Salalilo as an interchange option.

Providing utility cover in the backs, the 30-year-old Nicoll-Klokstad will make his first appearance since the round seven win over Gold Coast if he is called on.

Halfback Luke Metcalf dropped off the 20-man game day squad while centre Jye Linnane and hooker Jaydee Auloa were omitted at the 24-hour deadline last night. All three were named to turn out for the club’s New South Wales Cup side against the Newtown Jets in the curtain raiser to the NRL contest.

Tafua, Fatialofa and Salalilo – all 21 years old – are in line to make their NRL debuts in tonight's contest. If all three are used, one of them would become Warrior #300.

Injuries and State of Origin commitments have forced a major reshuffle for the Warriors’ first game at Go Media Stadium since beating Gold Coast 28-20 on April 18.

Prop Mitchell Barnett (New South Wales) and second rower Kurt Capewell (Queensland) are both unavailable on Origin duty while fellow veteran and co-captain James Fisher-Harris has been ruled out with a calf injury.

Fisher-Harris has joined other frontline players Leka Halasima (hamstring) and Sam Healey (thumb) on the casualty list along with Tanah Boyd and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck who are now recovering from surgery following their season-ending knee injuries.

The backline used in the club’s last outing against Penrith on May 31 has been named again while there are two changes in the listed starting pack with Tanner Stowers-Smith in for Fisher-Harris at prop and the vastly-experienced Marata Niukore for Halasima in the second row.

The Warriors have won four of their last six matches against the Sharks but suffered a disappointing 22-36 loss when the two teams last met in Sydney in round five.
