After playing in monsoon-like rain in Sydney last week, another fine night is forecast in Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau when the One New Zealand Warriors host their NRL Indigenous Round encounter at Go Media Stadium/Te pā o Rarotonga on Friday (8.00pm kick-off).
The second to last home game of the year holds a special place for the club with the players marking the round by again wearing Te Ao Mārama, the Warriors’ 2025 NRL indigenous jersey, when they face the Dragons.
Quite apart from the playing kit, the night will have a culturally deep and meaningful touch with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei providing a special welcome for both teams onto the field.
There’ll be halftime entertainment from young wahine Māori artist Jaya and a hip hop, haka-fusion dance performance from IDCO.
The evening will feature customised indigenous-themed big screen assets while there will be a cultural gift exchange between the two captains at the coin toss.
Te Reo Māori will also be incorporated into stadium announcements and the night’s music playlist.

Another big crowd is set for a huge challenge for the One New Zealand Warriors as they chase a vital win after three consecutive losses which have seen them slip out of the top four for the first time since round seven.
Ahead of the main game there’s a look into the future with an under-16 match between Māori and Pasifika Aotearoa Collective invitational sides starting at 5.40pm.
There’ll also be the usual excitement generated by Persil Junior Footy at 6.55pm and an array of other attractions and activities around the stadium.
Best advice for Friday night footy is to be at the ground early.
