Metcalf out for lengthy spell after leg fracture

One New Zealand Warriors half Luke Metcalf will be sidelined for a lengthy period after fracturing his leg early in Sunday’s NRL clash against Newcastle at Go Media Stadium.

The 25-year-old has undergone surgery after breaking the tibia in his right leg in a tackle by Knights second rower Tyson Frizell in the ninth minute of the match.

After an impressive preseason, Metcalf had been selected as Shaun Johnson’s partner for the start of the 2024 campaign.

It’s expected he’ll make a late season return.
