Harold Matthews Match Report: Four wins on end

Co-captain Kaawyn Patterson bagged a double to help the One New Zealand Warriors to their fourth consecutive win as they accounted for Canberra 26-10 in their seventh-round Harold Matthews Cup (under-17) encounter at Pukekohe’s Navigation Homes Stadium on Sunday.

The five-tries-to-two victory lifted the Warriors to 10 points and sixth place on the ladder with two rounds of the regular season to go.

Making their debut in the renowned pathways competition, the One New Zealand Warriors have bounced back from losing their opening two matches to two of the leading teams (Parramatta and the Roosters) to stitch together an impressive run of wins over South Sydney (22-17), Balmain (16-4), Illawarra (26-16) and now the Raiders.

They need to finish in the top six to play in the finals series next month with their last two games again at Navigation Homes Stadium against Cronulla Sutherland next Sunday and St George Illawarra on March 31.

The Sharks, who had a bye this weekend, are also on 10 points but fifth on points for and against while the Dragons are 13th with a 2-4 record so far.

The Warriors’ win over the Raiders started indifferently before they went halftime just 10-6 ahead but they produced three more tries in the second spell for a solid 16-point victory.
