“It’s fantastic seeing so much support for the One New Zealand Warriors wherever we go.

"We’re all so excited to be visiting the South Island for the first of two games we’re playing there this year."

As well as the trial against the Wests Tigers there are two other matches on programme, the first an under-15 fixture kicking off at 1.30pm.

It's a Sky Sport Future Warriors invitational fixture serving as an opportunity to promote players of the future.

Sky Sport Future Warriors pathways and development coach Tony Iro said the sides represent an amalgamation of players from the Warriors' Christchurch academy and selected juniors from across the South Island. Players have been selected based on their performances during 2023 and by recommendations from respected judges.

"We are running the match with the support of the South Island Scorpions," said Iro.

"It is an opportunity for the South island's best juniors to experience a match at Apollo Projects Stadium and to play against their peers in the South Island.

"The teams have had only two training sessions to prepare but have trained well and are looking forward to the match."

At 2.35pm, there'll be a match between two team from Physical Disabilities Rugby League New Zealand.

The One New Zealand Warriors' playing squad arrives in Christchurch late tomorrow afternoon (Friday) ahead of an open field session at Apollo Projects Stadium on Saturday (10.00am).
