Vodafone Warriors fans have once again shown their generosity by making bids totalling more than $33,000 in the special jersey auction to raise funds for the Warriors Community Foundation’s programmes.
Up for auction were full sets of jerseys worn by the Vodafone Warriors in their historic homecoming match against the Wests Tigers on July 3 and the club’s 2022 ‘Te Amokura’ Indigenous jerseys used against the Newcastle Knights in round 12.
When bidding was closed off shortly after Friday night’s 42-18 win over Canterbury Bankstown, an impressive total of $33,467 had been paid.
The highest price fetched was $3110 for the #7 jersey Shaun Johnson wore in the Vodafone Warriors’ 22-2 win over the Tigers, a match in which he created tries for Chanel Harris-Tavita and Jesse Arthars with pinpoint kicks, landed five goals from five attempts and controlled the contest throughout.
The jersey worn by captain Tohu Harris – one of the try scorers – went for $2090 while six other homecoming jerseys were bought for $1000 plus.
The top seller from the Indigenous Round encounter with the Roosters was fullback Reece Walsh’s #1 jersey which went for $2500 while Johnson’s was the next highest at $1932.
The auction capped a memorable occasion for the Warriors Community Foundation, the game day sponsor for the match against the Bulldogs.
“We just want to say a huge thanks to not just the successful bidders but to everyone who placed a bid during the auction,” said Warriors Community Foundation CEO Lincoln Jefferson.
“And a special thanks also to the club and the players for making our association with game day so memorable.”
Jefferson said the money raised from selling the jerseys will provide invaluable help in the foundation’s goal to reach more tamariki (children) through its programmes.
