Homecoming #4: Awards on field after season finale

In a break with tradition, the Vodafone Warriors have invited fans onto the field for club's annual awards presentation on Mount Smart Stadium's turf following Saturday's season finale against Gold Coast.

The fourth match of the Homecoming Series will bring to a close a tumultuous period in the club's history after spending three seasons in Covid-enforced exile based in Australia.

In partnership with game day sponsor Flava, the season-closing match will also play host to a reunion of many Vodafone Warriors past players.

Among them will be a number of 2002 team members who will mark the 20th anniversary of the club’s first grand final appearance, an occasion which will be acknowledged by the NRL team reprising a contemporary interpretation of the iconic 2002 home strip worn the sixth-round game against the Sydney Roosters in April.

Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George has reiterated the significance of this fixture in closing one of the most challenging periods in the club’s history.

“After such a long time away, this final game provides a chance to reconnect with all of our supporters and celebrate the dawn of a home season back in New Zealand in 2023,” he said.

“But before we draw a line under season 2022, it’s important that we pause to recognise some special achievements across the club.

“So, for the very first time we’ll be hosting our end of season awards presentation at Mount Smart Stadium immediately after the game against the Titans.

“Everyone in the stadium will be invited onto the main field to share in the presentation live and up close, from the best seats in the house.”

From 9.00am tomorrow (Monday, August 29, 2022), fans will be able to secure free tickets for the match. This follows major sponsor Vodafone buying remaining tickets to gift to supporters as it marks extending its partnership with the club to the end of the 2026 season.

Tickets will be available through www.ticketmaster.co.nz while stock lasts with a limit of two per customer.
