Grand final day set up for Mount Smart Stadium

Grand final day is all set to go in the inaugural Dean Bell Cup (under-18) and Shaun Johnson Shield (under-16) at Mount Smart Stadium on Saturday.

And better still fans with vaccine passes can head along to support the teams after the loosening of Covid restrictions on outdoor gatherings.

First up at 10.00am will be the Shaun Johnson Shield decider between Tāmaki ki te Raki (North) and Tāmaki ki te Tonga (South) before Mana Waikato and the Northern Swords meet in the play-off for fifth and sixth in the Dean Bell Cup at 12.00pm.

The Dean Bell Cup showdown, kicking off at 2.00pm, pits Tāmaki ki te Raki (North) against Tāmaki ki te Uru (West).

There’ll be more Dean Bell Cup and Shaun Johnson Shield action at Cornwall Park on Sunday with three matches to determine finals placings in the competitions.

In last weekend’s Johnson Shield semi-finals, Tāmaki ki te Raki (North) reached the grand final with a 22-4 win over Tāmaki ki te Rawhiti (East) and Tāmaki ki te Tonga (South) joined then after beating Tāmaki ki te Uru (West) 34-16.

In the first of Bell Cup semis, Tāmaki ki te Raki (North) had it all over Tāmaki ki te Rawhiti (East) winning 36-4 and Tāmaki ki te Uru (West) was similarly convincing in disposing of Tāmaki ki te Tonga (South) 38-10.
