Dragons' gesture lauded

Saturday's 18-0 win over the Dragons will feel extra special for the Warriors given the sacrifices the playing group has made to leave their families behind to base themselves in Australia since the start of May.

Despite missing plenty of players through injury on top of the disruption, the Warriors completed a startling 44 consecutive sets from the start of the game until the 75th minute on their way to holding the Red V scoreless.

"I was pretty pleased for the boys; really proud of the way they've gone about the last couple of months and endured a great deal," Warriors coach Stephen Kearney said.

"It didn't stop today, Peta [Hiku] come off after half an hour, we had to put Karl [Lawton] out in the centres.

"The way they've responded the last couple of months, just got on with the job, that's what I was most pleased about. Worked really hard prior to game today, worked really hard during game and got some reward for it. That's what I was most pleased for."

It is a special win not just for the playing group and their families back home but for the rest of the club and its staff and administration – as well as the large and passionate fan base.

"I know there would have been a lot of them watching tonight, it's just really pleasing to put on a performance they can be proud of," Kearney said.

Despite their own disappointment, the Dragons players gathered the Warriors in a huddle at the end of the game to pay respect in what was just the latest show of solidarity from the wider NRL community.

"We're loaning a player off the Roosters [Poasa Faamausili], he joins us on Sunday. Trent [Robinson] and the way there was no drama – they hadn't won a game either before last night but still let a guy of Poasa's quality come to us, it says a lot about him as an individual and them as a footy club," Kearney said.

"The good will has been out there from the rugby league community and it's been really really nice."

On the club's remarkable completion stat, Kearney could only smile.

"To be fair I knew we hadn't made an error but until the end I didn't really take much notice," he said.

"I think watching the footy over the last couple of days [with the new rules], I guess the takeaway from it was the team that had possession were able to build some pressure on the opposition.

"Coupled with that if you get a six-again it magnifies. It just worked out for us today. That's putting it simply."
