Vodafone Warriors players and staff teamed up with other volunteers on Saturday to lend support to TREEmendous, a community cause driven by major club sponsor Mazda.

Willing workers assembled at Stanhope Road School in Mount Wellington to literally dig in for a 13-year joint initiative between the Mazda Foundation and Project Crimson which strives to promote environmental education in schools.

TREEmendous teaches children about the importance of caring for the environment through the development of outdoor classrooms for teachers and students to reconnect with nature.

Stanhope School was the latest beneficiary with experienced Vodafone Warriors forwards Leeson Ah Mau and Bunty Afoa joined by promising young player Junior Ratuva and a host of staff to dig holes, plant trees, move supplies around and generally put in some graft.

Each year four schools from across New Zealand are chosen for the development of ‘outdoor classrooms’ through native tree planting and creation of living spaces where kids have the opportunity to reconnect with nature and the natural environment.

Mazda invited the Vodafone Warriors to be part of the crew last Saturday.
