Helping dogs find homes

Vodafone Warriors players and staff were back walking rescue dogs in Terrigal this week and their passion for the cause has helped two dogs find homes.

The Central Coast Animal Care Facility has been meeting up with the players and staff for weekly dog walks near their base on the Central Coast.

Kim Pickavance said the organisation was delighted publicity about the relationship with the Vodafone Warriors had helped to find homes for two dogs.

The facility posted on its Facebook page: “We were recently contacted by another facility to ask if we could assist them with an American Staffy girl they had in their care named Macey.

“Macey was not coping in the shelter environment and was showing signs of anxiety. She had even chewed through a door!

“We were told that although she could be a little fearful of people, she does bond quickly and gets along well with other dogs.

“We knew that if she was not coping in the facility she was in, she would probably be the same here with us but we wanted to help her. How could you resist that face right?

“So, help her we did! We transferred her to our home foster-based rescue Central Coast Community Rescue ready for some rehab with the amazing Sarah.

“It was around this time that we had planned our first walk with the Vodafone Warriors and Macey came along for some fun. The players from the Warriors were awesome with her and she thoroughly enjoyed her time with them.

“Fast forward a day or so and the story of the dogs walking with the Warriors was shown on The Late Show with Matty Johns. A very special family just happened to be watching the show and spotted Macey on TV and knew they just had to have her in their family. The next day they contacted Central Coast Community Rescue to organise a meet and greet ... and well, we are so very happy to say that Macey is now in her very own loving family and even has a little buddy to play with!

“This perfect match would never have happened if it wasn't for the amazing support of the Vodafone Warriors. Without our weekly walks, Macey would never have found herself on TV and her family would never have known she existed.

“Another of our dogs Alaska was also reunited with her long-lost owner because of these walks. Two walks done and two dogs now loving their happy ever after :)

“A heartfelt thank you to the Warriors for helping us give more exposure to our dogs looking for their forever homes. We look forward to our walks every week and your support and generosity of your time is so very much appreciated.

“You guys rock!”
