Vodafone Warriors ISP side under new coach in 2018

Vodafone Warrior general manager football Brian Smith today announced John Teina’s promotion as head coach of the club’s Intrust Super Premiership side this season.

Teina, previously the team’s assistant coach, replaces the experienced Tony Iro who moves into a fulltime role with the club’s NRL side.

“Tony has had a key role working with Stephen and his assistant coaches during the preseason and in the trials,” said Smith.

“His move up gives John a great opportunity to further his coaching career. He has been doing a terrific job with the ISP squad.”

Teina has previously had coaching positions on the Auckland club scene with the Mount Albert Lions (2015 and 2016) and four seasons with the Ellerslie Eagles.

Smith said Teina and Jersey Flegg Cup (under-20) coach Ricky Henry are also leading the Vodafone Warriors’ team of development coaches charged with nurturing the club’s promising youth players.
