GWM Game Day Guide: Celebrating former players

Past players will be out in force when the One New Zealand Warriors end their regular season campaign hosting the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at Go Media Stadium on Saturday (5.00pm kick-off; match day partner: One New Zealand).

Among the fan favourites gathering for the annual reunion will be a group of players from the original 1995 side including winger Sean Hoppe, who’s back at the club on a rare trip home from Australia.

The old boys will be acknowledged and celebrated on a day when the One New Zealand Warriors stage an NRL-NRLW doubleheader kicking off the NRLW round 10 encounter with the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks followed by the NRL showdown.

In the main event the Warriors will be seeking a record 18th win in a regular season after equalling the 2002 squad’s 17 victories with last week’s 46-32 victory over Newcastle.

They’re also poised to become the first Warriors side to top 700 points in a season, now sitting on 697 points after overtaking the 2002 team’s previous record of 688.

After gates open at 1.45pm, the action begins with the popular Persil Junior Footy.

After the NRLW match, the former players will be welcomed onto the field before forming a guard of honour for the One New Zealand Warriors as they run out for their warm-up.
