With play-offs football out of reach, pride will be a powerful driving force when the One New Zealand Warriors take on the Sea Eagles in today’s round 24 Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) clash at 4 Pines Park in Sydney (1.00pm kick-off local time; 3.00pm NZT).
With three rounds of the regular season to go, the Warriors are 10th on 26 points five behind fifth-placed South Sydney and sixth-placed Wests Tigers on 31 followed by Parramatta on 28 (with the Rabbitohs and Tigers still to play each other).
The Warriors can do no better than 32 points if they win their last three games against the Sea Eagles, Rabbitohs and Knights with either the Rabbitohs or Tigers able to finish on 33 unless they draw.
Last week’s loss to the Panthers was the Warriors’ third straight defeat, a critical blow for a campaign which began so potently when they scored more than 40 points in three wins in the opening rounds.
