McIntyre signed from Cowboys until 2028

Hardened forward Sam McIntyre will join the One New Zealand Warriors on a two-year deal for the 2027 and 2028 NRL seasons.

Now in his eighth first-grade season, the 190cm, 101kg North Queensland Cowboys back rower-prop has made 95 appearances since debuting with the Wests Tigers in 2020.

The Canberra-born McIntyre’s career includes starts in every position in the pack – even hooker - with his utility value also seeing him used extensively from the interchange.

“Sam is a terrific addition to our squad from next season,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.

“With a few forwards leaving us this year, he’ll provide experience and depth to our roster.”

McIntyre’s road to the NRL started with an NYC under-20 season with Newcastle in 2017 before he was signed by the Wests Tigers at a time when One New Zealand Warriors head coach Andrew Webster was on the club’s NRL coaching staff.

“Sam impressed with his toughness and the work ethic he had as he pushed towards his NRL debut,” said Webster.

“He’ll provide great value to our squad as well as being a real help for the younger forwards on our roster.”

Joining the Tigers in 2018, McIntyre spent his first two seasons there playing for feeder club Western Suburbs in the New South Wales Cup before making his NRL debut against the Cowboys in June 2020.

He followed his 12 NRL appearances for the Tigers with 25 for the Titans from 2021-2023 before joining the Cowboys.

Of his 58 games so far for North Queensland, 26 came in 2024 including the club’s finals games against the Knights and the Sharks.

At the end of that season he was selected in the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII scoring a try in the side’s 42-20 win over Papua New Guinea.

McIntyre (28) is the One New Zealand Warriors’ fourth new signing for next season following Grant Anderson (Brisbane Broncos), Will Warbrick (Melbourne Storm) and Riley Price (Redcliffe).
