Hanson leaving One New Zealand Warriors at end of season

One New Zealand Warriors NRL rookie Luke Hanson will leave the club at the end of the season to continue his career in Australia.

The 22-year-old Penrith junior joined the club in 2024, progressing through the Warriors’ Jersey Flegg Cup and New South Wales Cup pathways teams to make his NRL debut in the round three clash against the Knights in Newcastle in April.

“We’ve enjoyed having Luke with us for the past three seasons and watching his growth from the under-21 level to earn his first-grade debut this year,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.

“He has an opportunity back in Australia and we wish him all the best for the future. We really appreciate his efforts and contribution to the club.”

Hanson became Warrior #295 when he started at standoff in the 38-12 victory over the Knights, scoring the final try of the match.

In 2024 he played six times for the Warriors’ Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) side as well as making 18 appearances in the New South Wales Cup.

A member of the successful NSW Cup side last year, he has so far made 45 appearances in the competition.
