JFC Match Preview: Facing Canberra in away game in Sydney

An away game against Canberra in suburban Sydney gives the One New Zealand Warriors a chance to go back-to-back in their round 17 Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) clash today (1.00pm kick-off local time; 3.00pm NZT).

Home and away games between the two sides are played in south-west Sydney by agreement.

When they met in the Warriors’ round two ‘home’ fixture in Hinchinbrook in March, the New Zealanders swept the Raiders aside 48-28.

Today’s venue is Kirkham Oval in Camden with the Warriors striving to build on last week’s gritty 22-20 victory over the Bulldogs.

They’re sitting eighth on 20 points, just two points out of the top five (which is in play for this year’s finals), while the Raiders are ninth four points back on 16.

Last updated:

The Warriors opened the season emphatically with three decisive victories but then lost three on end and have a 4-6 record in their last 10 matches. Only once in that time have they put together consecutive wins.

They face the Raiders without second rower Dezman Laban and front rower Hohepa Chandler, who have been named to make their New South Wales Cup debuts in the Warriors’ encounter in Canberra tomorrow.

Also out is top try scorer Harry Tauafiafi but there is a huge inclusion in second rower Bishop Neal, back in the Jersey Flegg side after a run of appearances in the New South Wales Cup.
