JFC Match Report: Warriors go on a record rampage

Scoring 13 tries the One New Zealand Warriors raced to a record 66-6 win over Fiji’s Kaiviti Silktails in today’s round eight Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) match at FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton.

The score topped the club’s previous biggest of 48 (in round two against Canberra this year) and the margin topped the 40-point mark in a 46-6 win against Manly Warringah in 2019.

At the 25-minute mark there was just six points between the sides after the Silktails had scored to be 6-12 behind.

Even at halftime the margin was a solid but far from overwhelming 22-6 – but then the script went out the window.

The Warriors went in for their sixth try six minutes into the second half, sparking a surge which saw them rattle on 44 points in the last 34 minutes of the game.

The chief beneficiary was left winger Harry Tauafiafi who finished with four tries, two in each half, while fullback Joseph Ratcliffe had a double to finish the try scoring.

With their fifth win from eight starts, the Warriors are seventh on the ladder sporting the most points scored in the competition with 298. They're away to the Eels next week.
