SG Ball Team List: Seeking strong finish in season finale

While results haven’t fallen for the One New Zealand Warriors’ SG Ball Cup side this season, the goal of providing a development pathway for under-19 rugby league players has undoubtedly been achieved.

When the Warriors end their 2026 campaign with their round nine clash against the Illawarra Steelers in Wollongong today (1.50pm kick-off NZT), no fewer than 32 players would have had exposure in the grade as they follow their rugby league dreams.

The Warriors close out the season knowing a win would lift them to eight points, only two outside the top eight. Close losses to the Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs have proved costly.

On the other had a big group of players have stepped up their development including any number who came through the club’s title-winning Harold Matthews Cup (under-17) side in 2024 and 2025.

In turn some who started the 2026 season in the SG Ball Cup side have stepped up to play for the club’s Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) team in the past month while two have tasted New South Wales Cup (Bishop Neal and Amasio Tiatia).
