SG Ball Team List: Still an outside chance for finals

Sport’s vagaries are in full evidence for the One New Zealand Warriors’ SG Ball Cup (under-19) side.

With only two matches to go in the regular season, the Warriors have a 2-4 win-loss record, are coming off two heavy defeats in their last three games – and yet they still have some sort of chance, however slim, of making the competition’s finals.

Three weeks ago they kicked off a stretch of three matches on the road with a shattering 4-50 loss to the Bulldogs, rebounded to beat the Tigers 24-16 a week later and then crashed 4-44 to the Eels last week.

It might have been a terminal blow but they’re back home now facing the Western Suburbs Magpies in round eight at Bruce Pulman Park in Takanini on Sunday knowing all is not lost yet.

As it stands now they’re 10th on six points two points behind the seventh-placed Bulldogs and eighth-placed Knights.

They’ll need some help but two victories over the 13th placed Magpies and the last-placed Illawarra Steelers next week would at least give them a chance.
