JFC Match Report: Third 40-pointer knocked up in three starts

For the third week running the One New Zealand Warriors have gone on a points-scoring spree with a 46-6 victory over the Newcastle Knights to firm up their lead in the Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) competition.

Today’s victory at McDonald Jones Stadium follows their big wins over the Sydney Roosters (44-14) and Canberra (48-28) giving them a total of 138 points scored and a points differential of plus 90.

It’s easily the best start the Warriors have made in a competition in which they have previously struggled in.

There’s hasn’t been any sign of that so far this campaign.

They worked their way to an 18-0 lead at halftime scoring four tries but managing just one conversion.

Another five tries, four of them converted, followed in the second half as the Warriors ran away in another dominant performance.

The onslaught was sparked by centre Sio Kali when he shot down the left hand touchline to score in the seventh minute followed by right winger Brandon Norris four minutes later.

Standoff Harry Inch created room for left winger Harry Tauafiafi to cross before Inch himself scored, picking up a dropped ball and scampering 40 metres for a four pointer.

Second rower Kahu Capper opened the second half with a double, Nganatatafu Vake took multiple defenders with him to score, hooker Braelan Marsh finished off a long-range try and fullback Joseph Ratcliffe finished off the charge.

The Warriors are back home next Sunday hosting Wests Tigers at Bruce Pullman Park in Takanini.
