Three players set for round one after missing trials

Along with winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, second rower Marata Niukore and standoff Chanel Harris-Tavita will miss the One New Zealand Warriors’ Preseason Challenge matches but will be available for selection for the opening round of the season.

Tuivasa-Sheck, sidelined with a low-grade hamstring complaint, will miss the hit-outs against Manly Warringah today and the Dolphins in Sydney on February 20 to recover in time for the round one NRL encounter with the Sydney Roosters at Go Media Stadium on Friday, March 1.

Niukore and Harris-Tavita both have minor calf issues but will be clear for round one.

Taine Tuaupiki (ankle), ruled out of the All Stars the trial against Manly, is expected to be available for next week’s trial against the Dolphins.

Standoff Jye Linnane, signed from the Newcastle Knights, is eyeing a return to play in the early rounds of the season following ACL knee surgery last year.

Co-captain Mitchell Barnett (knee) is expected to be ready to return in the early rounds.
