NRLW duo signed by Les Catalans for offseason stint in French premiership

One New Zealand Warriors NRLW players Tyra Wetere and Felila Kia have been signed by Les Catalans for an offseason stint in the French domestic competition.

With the club’s NRLW campaign finishing earlier this month, players have a long break before the 2026 season starts in July.

Both players will return in April in time for preseason training in May.

“With our season over and a long time off until we start again, this is a great opportunity for Tyra and Felila to play more football and do so in another competition,” said One New Zealand Warriors head coach Ron Giffiths.

“Tyra was new to rugby union this year and this is a way for her to spend more time on the field learning about the game.

“Felila has had a disrupted season so this is all about her getting game time before we hit the preseason next year.”

Wetere (Warrior #70), a halfback-fullback in rugby union, was called up to make her NRLW debut on the wing against the Cowboys in round five after major signing Michaela Brake became unavailable. She appeared in six of the last seven games and finished as the team’s second top try scorer with five.

Kia, who made three NRLW appearances for Newcastle in 2023, had an injury-affected season but was used off the bench as Warrior #75 in the round nine match against the Dragons.
