NRL Preview: Berry boosts backline stocks against Titans

Rocco Berry's timely return coincides with his 50th career appearance when the One New Zealand Warriors take on the Titans at Cbus Super Stadium today.

It will be just the seventh outing of the season for the right edge centre in a game of huge significance for his side.

The Warriors will be desperate for victory to climb back into fourth spot ahead of the Sharks, who have edged ahead of them on points for and against after collecting two points for their third bye.

The Titans, though, have been extremely challenging opponents in recent years.

With the third wooden spoon in club history looming large, they must find some defensive resolve if they are to avoid another defeat.

Last weekend's 22-54 loss to the Sharks represented the fifth time this season that the Titans have leaked 40 points or more in a match.

Only a month has passed since these two sides met in Auckland and the Titans came up with a stunning upset on the back of a try double and 256 run metres from Phil Sami and 14 powerful runs for 162 metres from Moeaki Fotuaika.

The match will be controlled by rookie referee Jarrod Cole who will be in charge of an NRL match for just the second time after making his debut in last week's clash between the Cowboys and the Knights.

Team news

Titans: The Titans have centres Brian Kelly (concussion) and Jojo Fifita (ankle) back on deck so Beau Fermor returns to the back row and Phil Sami slides out to the wing. Josh Patston goes to the bench while Reagan Campbell-Gillard starts at prop with Jaimin Jolliffe out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. David Fifita is also out for the rest of the year after undergoing surgery on his ankle last week. Klese Haas comes back in on the bench after missing the Sharks game for personal reasons.

One New Zealand Warriors: Three key ins for Andrew Webster with Kurt Capewell (concussion), Te Maire Martin (concussion) and Rocco Berry (shoulder) all back on deck. Berry's return sees Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad go back to fullback and Taine Tuaupiki to 18th man while Leka Halasima goes to the bench to make way for Capewell. With Jackson Ford banned until the finals, Demitric Vaimauga will start at prop.
