A much-improved start will be a key focus for the One New Zealand Warriors when they face the Wests Tigers in the second of three three straight home games in Saturday’s round 19 Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) contest at North Harbour Stadium.
In their last two matches on home soil the Warriors have conceded big leads to Penrith and the Kaiviti Silktails.
Against the Panthers they fell 0-34 behind early in the second half en route to a shattering 14-40 loss.
Then last Saturday they faltered to the competition’s bottom-placed side as they leaked three tries in the opening 22 minutes to be 0-18 down before they found a response. And what a response it was as they piled on eight unanswered tries to win 40-18 and move up to eighth on the ladder.

The challenge steps up markedly in the next two games at North Harbour Stadium, first against the seventh-placed Tigers and then the top-placed Melbourne Storm who have been so dominant so far.
The Tigers and Warriors are both on 18 points with identical records of seven wins, two draws and eight losses with the Tigers ahead on points for and against differential (minus 40 compared to the Warriors’ minus 64).

Both sides have been up and down throughout the season.
The Warriors have, however, been much improved since their round 11 bye winning five of their last seven matches after having two wins, two draws and six losses in their first 10 games. They’re coming off consecutive wins looking to win three on end for the first time this season.
The Tigers have a similar record with four wins, a draw and two losses in their last seven outings but tellingly they edged the second-placed Raiders 26-24 last week.
On the individual front, centre-winger Brandon Norris has been outstanding for the Warriors recently with another double last week – his fourth of the season – lifting his tally for the season to 11 tries.
