One New Zealand Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf has been voted the player of the month by his peers across the NRL competition.
In a vote run by the RLPA (Rugby League Players’ Association) Metcalf won the title for May ahead of Roosters fullback James Tedesco and South Sydney front rower Keaon Koloamatangi.
The 26-year-old #7 featured strongly for the Warriors in a month in which they beat the Cowboys 30-26, the Dragons 15-14 and the Dolphins 16-12, lost 10-16 to the Raiders and rebounded against the Rabbitohs 36-30 (which that match was played in June 1, the 13th round was wrapped into May).
The earlier winners this season were Brisbane prop Payne Haas in March and Wests Tigers front rower Terrell May in April.
Across the five matches Metcalf scored four tries (he’s the club’s leading try scorer with eight, produced three try assists, kicked a match-winning field goal against the Dragons, made five line breaks, 14 tackles breaks, averaged 87 run metres a game, forced three goal-line drop outs and scored 51 points in total.
