Injury has forced hooker Wayde Egan out of the One New Zealand Warriors’ lineup for today’s round 14 NRL encounter with Cronulla Sutherland at Sharks Stadium in Sydney (5.30pm kick-off local time; 7.30pm NZT).

The 28-year-old 141-game veteran had started in all 12 games so far this season but has failed to overcome a hip complaint.

He has been replaced by 22-year-old Sam Healey who will make just his second NRL appearance - and his first start - following his debut against North Queensland in the Magic Round at Suncorp Stadium on May 3.

Healey, son of Sharks legend Mitch Healey, will line up against his old club where he had failed to break through into the NRL side. He left Cronulla Sutherland at the end of last season to chase his NRL dream with the Warriors.

One New Zealand Warriors head coach Andrew Webster has also made some tactical switches to the starting pack.

Marata Niukore has been moved to prop from the second row with Jackson Ford, initially named in the front row, switched to the interchange while Jacob Laban takes Niukore’s place in the back row alongside teenager Leka Halasima.

The bench now comprises Ford, Te Maire Martin Demitric Vaimauga and Tanner Stowers-Smith.

With Egan ruled out and Healey initially retained as 19th man last night, the Warriors have brought Tom Ale back in to fill that role with Taine Tuaupiki confirmed as 18th man.

Webster: It's all a bit raw now, sometimes life's not fair

As well as losing Egan, the Warriors are also without co-captain Mitchell Barnett (knee injury) and centre Rocco Berry (hamstring) for the battle with the fifth-placed Sharks.

Making his 49th appearance for the club, Barnett had his 2025 season cruelly ended when he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee midway through the first half of last Sunday’s encounter with the Rabbitohs.

The unlucky Berry also experienced more frustration in his comeback from a stint on the sideline with a hamstring injury.

In what had been an impressive try-scoring return in his 47th career outing, he was forced to leave the field in the 60th minute after experiencing more hamstring tightness.

In Barnett’s absence, the hard-working Jackson Ford has been named to start at prop in tandem with co-captain James Fisher-Harris.

Ford was outstanding when he replaced Barnett, playing the last 59 minutes of the game making 155 metres from 15 runs and 37 tackles plus an unexpected try assist when his grubber kick produced a first half try for Berry.

Berry’s unavailability again sees the fix-it man Kurt Capewell in the centres. It’s the fourth time he has been selected to start while he has also moved into the role to cover injuries, as was the case against the Rabbitohs when Berry left the field.

With Capewell in the centres, the exciting Leka Halasima is named to start in the second row with fellow back rower Jacob Laban included on the interchange along with 2025 rookie front rower Tanner Stowers-Smith, middle forward Demitric Vaimauga and utility Te Maire Martin.

The rest of backline is the same as the combination used in the 36-30 win over South Sydney when the back three of Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck accounted for four of the Warriors’ seven tries between them.

They combined to make a total of almost 600 metres led by Nicoll-Klokstad who posted 339 metres from 28 runs, 97 post-contact metres, a try, a line break and eight tackle breaks plus try-saving deeds on defence.

With his try – his eighth of the season – and four goals, halfback Luke Metcalf lifted his season tally to 101 points.

Second rower Marata Niukore makes his 49th appearance for the club this week – the 145th of his career – while Martin is in line to play his 99th career game.

The Warriors sit on 20 points with a 9-3 record, four ahead of the Sharks who have a 7-5 record in their first 12 matches. They're coming off a bye following a 16-42 loss to the Roosters but they won their previous three against the Eels, Sea Eagles and Storm.
