No stopping the One New Zealand Warriors as they worked their way to their seventh straight win beating the Rabbitohs 24-6 in Saturday’s round 13 New South Wales Cup match at Redfern Oval in Sydney.

With their 11th win in 12 starts, the Warriors moved to 24 points to maintain their three-point buffer at the top of the ladder as well as completing a New South Wales Cup-Jersey Flegg Cup double for the club after the under-21 side sealed a last-minute 30-26 victory in the early game.

The competition-leading Warriors were facing the bottom-placed side and the early signs confirmed the gap between the two teams.

Boasting such a potent set of forwards to play off, the Warriors’ spine had the running of the game as they all popped up impressively.

In just the third minute a raid down the left saw returning winger Edward Kosi rolling out a superb off load to second rower Kayliss Fatialofa on the touchline. When he was stopped inside South Sydney’s 20, halfback Tanah Boyd pounded a cross-field bomb way over to the right where winger Daeon Amituanai snared the loose ball to score the first of his two tries.

Boyd’s splendid conversion lifted his season’s tally to 99 points.

Minutes later it was hooker Sam Healey imposing himself.

NSW Cup Highlights: Amituanai doubles up in win

On his own 30 metre line he surged out of dummy half, pushing offside defenders out of the way and then finding himself in the open as he shot away downfield before giving fullback Taine Tuaupiki a 35-metre run to the line.

Boyd made it 101 points for the season and the Warriors were looking good for a lot more but there was no follow-up as the teams went to halftime with the scoreline reading 12-0.

Eight minutes into the second half the Warriors found points-scoring touch again at last.

Healey and Tuaupiki combined on a short side 10 metres out, Tuaupiki nudging through a grubber with three of his teammates in pursuit, second rower Eddie Ieremia-Toeava winning the race for the try to make it 16-0.

For their fourth and last try the Warriors again went to the right, dummy half Freddy Lussick connecting with Tuaupiki and standoff Luke Hanson who created a passage for Amituanai to grab his second try.

Boyd’s sideline conversion opened to lead out to 22-0 but chances of a clean sheet disappeared when the Rabbitohs scored their only try of the day before Boyd completed the scoring with a penalty in the final seconds.

The Warriors are back in Sydney next Saturday to play the Newton Jets – the only team they’ve lost to – at Henson Park.
