One New Zealand Warriors co-captain Mitchell Barnett has been named to start for New South Wales in game one of the 2025 State of Origin series against Queensland at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Wednesday, May 28.
The 31-year-old 176-game NRL veteran helped the Blues to a series victory on debut in the final match of the series last season.
The Warriors’ 2025 player of the year then capped an outstanding year by making his Test debut for the Kangaroos and appearing in all three matches of the Pacific Championships as they beat Tonga for the title.
Appointed Warriors co-captain this season, Barnett has been impressive in leading the side to second on the NRL table with an 8-2 record, equalling their best start to season.
Playing big minutes in all 10 matches, Barnett has averaged 144 tackles and 36 tackles (94.99% tackle efficiency).
