One New Zealand Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf has snared the maximum six points for the second week running and the third time this season to surge into the top five on the Dally M leaderboard.
He has leapt from nine points to 21 in his last two outings to be level with Brisbane prop Payne Haas and behind only Cronulla Sutherland fullback Will Kennedy (27), Wests Tigers front rower Terrell May (26) and Roosters fullback James Tedesco (24).
Metcalf was in sublime touch in Saturday’s heart-stopping Magic Round win over the Cowboys as he scored two tries and five goals for a haul of 18 points while running for 162 metres from 11 runs with two line breaks, two line break assists and seven tackle breaks.
For all that, his most significant act proved to be the inspirational try-saving tackle he made on North Queensland winger Murray Taulagi with 15 minutes left, an act which ultimately enabled the courageous Warriors to hang onto their 30-26 lead for their sixth win of the season.
