Centre Patrick Moimoi makes his return from a long injury layoff in the One New Zealand Warriors’ round eight Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) clash against the Newcastle Knights at the Trusts Arena in Waitakere on Saturday (11.45am kick-off).

The 21-year-old announced himself as one of the club’s most promising players in 2023 when he excelled for the SG Ball Cup (under-19) side and was then fast-tracked into the New South Wales Cup team.

However, he had a setback when he all but missed the entire 2024 campaign through knee surgery.

Now he begins his road back, named to line up in the centres as the Warriors chase their third win of the season.

After falling to three losses in the opening three rounds, they’ve improved significantly with two wins and a draw to sit just outside the competition’s top eight.

They had their best result last week when they accounted for the highly-ranked Dragons, running out to a 36-12 lead midway through the second half before losing their way allowing St George Illawarra to hit back with three tries to close the score-line up to 36-30.
