Fourth spot on the line in tonight's NSW Cup encounter

Protecting fourth spot will be a driving force for the One New Zealand Warriors when they face Canberra in tonight’s round 21 New South Wales Cup encounter at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart (5.30pm kick-off).

After putting together back-to-back wins over South Sydney and Parramatta, the Slade Griffin-coached Warriors slipped up with a disappointing 18-26 home loss to third-placed Newtown last Sunday.

However, results in other matches ensured they held onto fourth place on the ladder.

They’re on 23 points, level with the Raiders but ahead on points for and against. When the two sides met in Canberra on July 10, the Warriors had a convincing 34-16 victory.

They rank as the competition’s top points-scoring side with 503 from 19 games while they're sixth for the fewest points conceded with 376.

Tonight they’ll be boosted up front with the inclusion of regular NRL front rower Tom Ale. After appearing in every match this season he is having an outing with the New South Wales Cup side to get some much-needed minutes under his belt.

In another significant positive NRL rookie back rower Demitric Sifakula returns from a knee injury alongside fellow NRL squad players Taine Tuaupiki, Viliami Vailea and Ronald Volkman.
