Rd 20 NSW Cup: Top four battle in curtain raiser

Top four football is on the menu when the One New Zealand Warriors take on the Newtown Jets in tomorrow’s round 20 New South Wales Cup curtain raiser at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart (1.30pm kick-off).

The Jets sit third on the ladder on 25 points with the Warriors just two points back in fourth spot after back-to-back wins over South Sydney and Parramatta.

The last time the two sides met four weeks ago, the Jets held on for a 24-16 victory at Henson Park.

Fullback Taine Tuaupiki, halfback Ronald Volkman and prop Zyon Maiu’u are set to line up after being omitted from the NRL team’s extended squad today.

The side was without the influential Volkman in last week’s impressive 34-16 win over the Eels.

As well as Tuaupki and Volman, NRL centres Brayden Wiliame and Viliami Vailea have been named in the centres while the line-up selected includes four players who appeared at SG Ball Cup level this season – back rowers Jacob Laban and Leka Halasima plus forwards Tanner Stowers-Smith and Eddie Ieremia on the interchange.
