Quartet named in Samoa squad for Cook Islands clash

Four Vodafone Warriors are in Toa Samoa’s 20-man squad for its Pacific Test against the Cook Islands at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday, June 25.

Leading the quartet are experienced forwards Jazz Tevaga and Bunty Afoa with playmaker Chanel Harris-Tavita and rookie halfback Ronald Volkman also named.

The energetic Tevaga made his 100th NRL appearance last month while Afoa plays his 99th game this weekend and is on track to join the 100 club in the Vodafone Warriors’ homecoming match against the Wests Tigers on July 3.

Afoa first represented Samoa in 2016, Tevaga debuted in 2017 and Harris-Tavita in 2019.

Sydney-born Volkman’s selection continues a whirlwind week which began on Tuesday when interim head coach Stacey Jones handed the 19-year-old his Vodafone Warriors NRL debut against Penrith on Saturday.

Samoa’s squad is peppered with experienced NRL players. Apart from Tevaga and Afoa, the line-up also includes Marty Taupau, Anthony Milford, David Nofoaluma, Josh Aloiai, Luciano Leilua and Jaydn Su’A along with exciting young players like Josh Schuster, Izack Tago, Charlie Staines, Taylan May and Francis Molo. Also named is former Vodafone Warriors prop Toafofoa Sipley.
