Titans include 11 New Zealand-born players in expanded squad

Three former Vodafone Warriors and two Kiwis are among 11 New Zealand-born players included in Gold Coast’s expanded squad for Saturday’s second-round NRL clash against the New Zealand franchise at Cbus Super Stadium in Robina on Saturday (2.00pm kick-off local time; 5.00pm NZT).

Ex-Warriors Sam Lisone, Patrick Herbert and Erin Clark were denied the chance of another clash against their old club when the planned trial against the Vodafone Warriors was first postponed and then cancelled last month.

They were all in the side which handed the Vodafone Warriors a record loss (0-44) against the Titans in the final round of the 2021 regular season. They’re back again – Herbert at centre, Clark at hooker and Lisone on the bench – along with Gold Coast’s new signing Kiwi and ex-Roosters forward Isaac Liu plus long-time Kiwi international Kevin Proctor.

In all 11 New Zealand-born players are in Gold Coast’s initial 24-man squad.

Two more – Auckland-born winger Greg Marzhew and Gisborne-born prop Moeaki Fotuaika – are in the Titans’ starting line-up while Whangarei’s ex-Vodafone Warrior Paul Turner is on the extended bench along with Auckland-born Kiwi internationals Esan Marsters and Herman Ese’ese and Dunedin-born winger Sosefo Fifita.
